About

History

Hey there! My name is Brad, and this is my small little corner of the web. I originally owned this domain back in the early 2000s. At the time, it was just a simple static site that hosted desktop wallpapers I created while working at Tucows.com. After a few years, I moved on, and the archive itself was getting old, so it felt like the right time to retire it.

It's been about 20 years since I last even thought about this domain. A couple of years after I let it go, I checked in on it and remember being quoted an absurd price to buy it back from a domain reseller who based the value on the original site's traffic. Fast forward to today's market, and it turned out to be the perfect reunion.

If you're curious, “Calamnet” is a play on my old gamer tag CalamitytheIV, which I used while playing Myth: The Fallen Lords. Don't ask me what the “IV” meant. I think it just looked cool at the time.

I've now been building websites for over 25 years and wanted a space of my own to experiment and genuinely have some fun. Today, I work as a front-end developer and accessibility specialist at Michigan State University. I actively maintain my Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies (CPACC) certification, as shown in the badge below.

Accessibility is something I care deeply about, and that passion carries over into the tools I build. The website and tools here are designed with accessibility in mind, and I'll continue adding new ideas and improvements as they come to me. I try to include accessibility considerations from the start of every project, but the web evolves, and so do best practices. Because of that, I often revisit projects to refine and improve them over time.

I also have a few tools that are just for fun, but mobile and accessibility are always part of the thought process when I'm building something.
